From atop its rocky outcrop, Castelnau-Barbarens<\/a> enjoys an exceptional view over the Gers countryside<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The medieval village <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Medieval Castelnau<\/strong>, the village built around the castle, was founded by the earls of Astarac in the 11th century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The village is overlooked by the 13th century tower. The church, built on the ruins of the castle, clings to the steep slopes of its concentric terraces. The streets are like stairways leading to Arratz Valley. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prehistoric artefacts and a number of Gallo-Roman vestiges found here show the very early occupation of this area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The village is proud of its flowerscapes, which have earned it an official “two-flowers” rating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
