Built in 1863, it comprises 370 steps in total - with the double flights of stairs - but one only climbs (up or down) 235 steps on a 35 m elevation.

In the middle, stands the statue (erected in 1931) of the most famous Gascon: D’Artagnan, Captain of the King’s Musketeers.

Charles de Batz, his real name, was born in Lupiac (35 km – SW of Auch) around 1610 and became famous thanks to Alexandre Dumas’ novel ‘The Three Musketeers’.
